Star Brewery Gallery - History
Like many of the characterful old buildings in Lewes the Star Brewery originally functioned as a simple utilitarian workplace.
Founded in what was then Star Lane in 1741, it was acquired by a Lewes brewer Thomas Beard in 1811.
For the next one hundred and fifty years or so the Star Brewery continued to thrive, supplying Beard’s Beer to the busy market town and surrounding areas.
Sadly, after the death of George Beard in 1958, the building fell into disrepair. It was brought back to life by the famous Harvey’s Brewery of Lewes, but in 1986 closed its doors as a brewery for the final time.
